Cold Start Fried Chicken (Lori)

 1 chicken, about 3 1/2 pounds, cut in pieces
 1/2 cup buttermilk
 1/2 cup flour
 1 tsp. ground marjoram
 1/2 tsp garlic powder
 1/2 tsp salt
 1/8 tsp pepper
 1 cup vegetable oil

Pour buttermilk over the chicken, making sure all sides are evenly coated.
Set aside. Mix flour with the marjoram, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Coat the moistened chicken with flour mixture.

Pour oil into large skillet.  Place the chicken skin side down in  a single layer in the oil. Cover with lid. Cook on medium heat for 15 min. Remove lid. Turn chicken over and fry for another 8-9 min. Drain on paper towels. Serve.
