Mildred's Hickory Nut Cake (Julie)
Sift twice:
2 1/2 cups flour
3 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
Cream together:
1 1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup Crisco
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
Fold in:
3 beaten egg whites
1 cup water
1 cup Hickory nuts
Preheat oven to 350°. Bake for 20-25 minutes. Frost with Creamy Frosting.
Creamy Frosting
Cook until thick, then let cool:
3 tbsp. flour
1 cup milk
Beat until creamy:
½ cup Crisco
½ cup oleo
1 cup granulated sugar
Add 1 tbsp. vanilla. Then add milk & flour mixture. Beat well with electric mixer. |
